Kraken Institutional has partnered with tokenization platform Centrifuge to introduce real-world assets (RWAs) to its qualified custody offering, beginning with a tokenized version of Janus Henderson’s flagship JAAA collateralized loan obligation (CLO) strategy.

The partnership allows institutional clients to hold tokenized traditional assets in custody while using them as collateral for borrowing, trading through Kraken Prime, or deploying them into yield-generating vaults without transferring assets or adding new counterparties.

JAAA, Janus Henderson’s AAA-rated CLO strategy, becomes the first tokenized real-world asset supported by Kraken Custody.

“Janus Henderson is committed to being the premier provider of institutional quality tokenized products in DeFi,” said Nick Cherney, Head of Innovation at Janus Henderson. “That vision can only be realized alongside partners like Kraken and Centrifuge.”

Kraken said the service enables institutions to hold tokenized assets, earn the underlying yield, and use them as collateral within a single custody relationship.

Earlier this week, Kraken introduced an on-chain warehouse facility for digital asset-backed lending in partnership with Maple. The company also launched zero-fee futures trading for eligible new clients in the European Economic Area.

Centrifuge works with asset managers, including Janus Henderson, to tokenize traditional investment products, giving institutional investors access to regulated assets through blockchain infrastructure.
