US financial services group StoneX Group Inc. (NASDAQ: SNEX) announced on Thursday that it is expanding its Birmingham, Alabama, presence with a new 46,000-square-foot office at Protective Center.
The site will hold 310 seats and is expected to support nearly 90 new employees over the next three to five years. StoneX said the Birmingham location will continue serving securities clearing and core operational infrastructure functions for its global platform.
“Birmingham has long been part of our operational footprint,” said Maribeth Williams, Head of Securities Operations at StoneX. “Its financial services roots, talent base, and supportive business environment make it an ideal location to continue scaling operational capabilities that support our global platform.”
StoneX’s securities clearing operations in Birmingham have been in place for more than 25 years. The company said the expansion builds on the legacy of Sterne Agee, one of the largest broker-dealers in the Southeastern United States, with origins dating back to 1901.
The move represents a nearly $11 million investment, according to Made in Alabama. Jefferson County commission records from January showed StoneX had 228 employees locally and had received approval for job-creation incentives tied to the project.
