Cryptocurrency trading firm Crypto.com has hired Chris Old as its new VP Global of Organic Growth.
Old joins the company from IG Group, where he was Head of Organic Growth. He spent seven years at the London-listed broker and was responsible for growing its organic traffic 10x and organic revenue 9x.
Prior to IG Group, Old worked outside of financial services, with stints at Cancer Research and Truly Experiences. Both were in SEO-related roles.
Old is one of several senior IG executives to have moved over to Crypto.com in the last 12 months.
The crypto firm recently appointed Alex Ratford, IG’s former Global Marketing Partnerships Lead, as Global VP of Growth Partnerships.
At the end of last year, Crypto.com also hired Manuel Del Aguila Barbero, who had been at IG Group for almost a decade and worked as the broker’s Global Head of Acquisition and Media. He is now Global Head of Growth at Crypto.com.
To top that off, last week Crypto.com also announced that it had hired Kevin Algeo as its SVP, Capital Markets. Algeo was at IG Group for over a decade and worked as the broker’s CEO for APAC and Africa.
Crypto.com is growing fast
Crypto.com is still hiring for more than 500 roles globally, a huge number considering the company’s reported revenues and profit levels.
Strikingly, many of those roles are in developed markets, meaning the company is not just outsourcing work to cheaper countries.
How sustainable that will be remains to be seen.
As we are currently in the middle of a boom, with a more crypto-friendly US president, that has leant itself to firms being more ‘upbeat’ about their prospects.
But crypto firms see huge volatility in earnings, that are often more pronounced than those you see at CFD brokers, as revenues mirror the frequent dips and dives you see in the digital assets market. Any dive is likely to result in a cut back in hiring.
