Brokerage group Crypto.com has hired Louis Hawila as VP Capital Markets for Europe.
Hawila is based in Cyprus and joins the company from CTCAP, a broker that provides services to professional investors across Europe.
He was CEO of CTCAP for two years, having joined the company in July of 2023. Hawila also held non-executive directorship roles at Coinbase’s Cypriot-regulated entity and a payments company called Intraclear. He appears to have left his role at Coinbase to take up the new position at Crypto.com.
Prior to CTCAP, Hawila held compliance roles at institutional broker Alpaca, the Cypriot arm of hedge fund giant ED&F Man Group, and retail broker Blackwell Global.
He also held another non-executive directorship role at Shares.io – a French broker that briefly operated a Cypriot entity a couple of years ago.
Crypto.com expanding aggressively
Interestingly Crypto.com does not have a Cypriot license yet, either as an investment firm or under crypto-specific regulation.
Given Hawila’s compliance background and the NED roles he has held, it’s plausible his appointment is the first step towards doing that.
The company has made several hires from the CFD industry, with senior executives joining the broker from companies like IG Group and Saxo Bank.
The Singapore-based firm is still hiring for close to 450 roles globally, down from over 500 just a couple of months ago.
