Brokerage firm IG Group has hired Esteve Jane as its new Managing Director for its European division.
Jane comes from outside of the trading industry. He founded and sold a medical devices company called Aifos Solutions and has worked in both venture capital and corporate finance.
He joins the firm after a short stint at Adevinta, a holding company that operates a large number of different classified ads websites.
Jane had worked at Advevinta before, as the Chief Operating Officer of the Coches.net brand and also as CEO of online marketplace Shpock.
It’s plausible Jane has been brought in to work on M&A activity at the firm, given his prior experience.
IG seems to be looking to expand primarily through targeted acquisitions at the moment.
At the same time, the company also restructured internally last year and broke itself up into more autonomous, regional divisions.
Leaving aside any acquisition driven growth, Jane will probably have been tasked with expanding the company’s footprint in Europe.
Interestingly, he appears to be based in the company’s Spanish office. Spain has put extremely heavy restrictions on the marketing of CFDs, meaning it’s hard to see how any firm could drive business there.
