Retail broker OneRoyal announced on Wednesday that it is partnering with the former football player Diego Forlan.
The Uruguayan will be the broker’s new brand ambassador, although it’s unclear what that will actually entail as of yet.
Forlan played for a series of big clubs in the 2000s and 2010s. That included stints at Manchester United, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid. He also played for one season at Italian team Inter Milan.
Forlan retired in 2018, after playing for teams in Japan, Hong Kong, and India for the last few years of his career.
The likelihood is that OneRoyal is planning on using the player to reach a broader audience in Latin America.
As noted, Forlan is Uruguayan and if you take a quick scroll through his social media accounts, the bulk of his posts are in Spanish.
He also has large followings on Instagram, X, and Facebook, with more than 7m followers on the latter social media site.
Moreover, the branding in the video that OneRoyal released with Forlan has Spanish marketing text in it. Again, it’s hard to see why you would do this unless the goal was to attract customers in Latin America.
