Payments infrastructure provider RS2 launched Beyond by RS2 on Monday, a platform that lets fintechs and digital platforms roll out card issuing and merchant acquiring services across Europe using RS2’s regulated infrastructure.
The platform operates under a sponsorship model. Partners can issue cards and process payments under RS2’s BaFin-regulated EMI licence in Germany and its principal memberships with Visa and Mastercard, cutting out the need to secure their own banking licence or direct card network access.
The service runs on RS2’s cloud-native BankWORKS processing system and combines issuing and acquiring on a single platform. RS2 monetises the arrangement through a hybrid of monthly subscription fees, per-transaction charges, card issuance fees and interchange revenue sharing.
Beyond by RS2 has already gone live in Germany with a pilot partner, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers professional ice hockey team, where it powers a digital fan ecosystem built around co-branded Visa cards and a mobile app. RS2 said it plans to expand across the European Union via licence passporting.
“We can now help our clients bring innovative payment products to market faster, from co-branded cards to full-service issuing, while giving them the confidence of operating under our regulated framework,” said Jens Mahlke, CEO of Beyond by RS2.
The launch follows a series of regulatory milestones for the company. RS2 Financial Services received its EMI licence from BaFin in May 2021, and Beyond by RS2 achieved principal issuing member status with Visa and Mastercard in November 2025.
