ICE says May ADV rises 14% as open interest hits record 130.6 million lots

Exchange operator Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) on Wednesday reported that total average daily volume rose 14% year over year in May, while open interest climbed 24% y/y and reached a record 130.6 million lots on May 25.

The fastest growth came from rates and financials. Total Interest Rates ADV rose 38% y/y and OI jumped 63%, hitting a record 50.8 million lots on May 29. SONIA OI nearly doubled, up 96% y/y, while Euribor OI rose 45% y/y. Total Financials OI set its own record of 54.5 million lots on May 29.

Commodities and equities

Agriculture & Metals ADV surged 60% y/y, with cotton ADV up 151% and cocoa up 85%. Total Natural Gas OI rose 10% y/y to a record 47.9 million lots on May 22, and Asia gas ADV climbed 30%.

NYSE Equity Options ADV rose 54% y/y, while NYSE Cash Equities ADV gained 12%.

ICE’s March statistics release had flagged Q1 as a record quarter, with total OI reaching 125.4 million lots on March 12. May’s 130.6 million-lot mark extends that trend.
