Brokerage group Eightcap has hired Neil Emmerson as its new Head of UK Trading Risk.

Emmerson joins the Melbourne-headquartered company from rival brand CMC Markets, where he spent over a decade in senior dealing desk roles.

He originally worked at London-listed CMC Markets as Head of Volatility and was responsible for building out the company’s binary options products.

Presumably after those products were heavily restricted by UK, European, and other global regulators, he moved into working as a quant trader for the company.

During his time at the firm, he developed trading strategies for index, commodities, treasuries and cryptocurrency products at the broker.

Prior to joining CMC Markets in 2014, Emerson spent more than 10 years at IG Group. He initially worked as a market maker for the broker’s options desk.

After that he spent more than six years working as a market maker for the company’s now largely-defunct set of binary options products.

Eightcap has made more of a push in the UK over the last 12 months via a partnership with TradingView.

At the end of last year, the broker became the first TradingView-only broker in the UK, having switched off access to MetaTrader for clients in the country.

The brokerage group has also been a key player in the prop firm space, both as a B2B services provider and via a B2C offering.

Emmerson is the second senior trading executive at CMC Markets to leave the brokerage group in the last few months. In May, Emmet O’Donoghue – who had been Head of Quantitative Analysis – also left the company after spending close to a decade there.
