Swiss regulator FINMA on Friday appointed Simon Brönnimann to lead its Recovery and Resolution business area in Bern, formalising a role he had already held on an interim basis since 1 April.
Brönnimann will oversee bank recovery and resolution supervision and management, FINMA said. Recovery and Resolution is one of the regulator’s eight business areas.
The appointment is the final step in a leadership reshuffle FINMA announced in February. That move saw Alain Girard shift from Recovery and Resolution to head the Banks division from 1 April, with Brönnimann taking over the outgoing unit on an interim basis. Brönnimann had himself been serving as Interim Head of the Banks division since September 2025, following the departure of the previous head.
Before those interim stints, Brönnimann ran FINMA’s Small Banks and Securities Firms section. He also headed the supervision of UBS and the CS Group from 2015 to 2023, including follow-up work after the Credit Suisse crisis, his FINMA CV shows. He joined FINMA’s predecessor organisation in 2007.
FINMA now has permanent heads in place for both its Banks and Recovery and Resolution divisions.
