Deriv: Cyprus is a strategic hub for our operations

Brokerage group Deriv has ramped up its presence in Cyprus over the last few months. The company recently opened a new office in Nicosia and the company was also named the third-best place to work in Cyprus.

We caught up with office heads Geo Nicolaidis and Andreas Potamitis to find out what the company has planned for its operations in the Eastern Mediterraenean.

Deriv Cyprus was just named 3rd Best Workplace 2025 in Cyprus. What does this recognition mean for the team?

Geo Nicolaidis: “This award validates what we’ve been building – an environment where
people genuinely connect with their work and colleagues. Achieving this in less than three
years demonstrates how effectively we’ve translated Deriv’s global culture into a thriving local
workplace that resonates with Cypriot professionals. For us, this is just the beginning.”

Andreas Potamitis: “Beyond the accolade itself, this recognition strengthens our position as
we continue expanding our presence in Cyprus. We’ve grown strategically across both Nicosia
and Limassol, creating complementary teams that collaborate seamlessly. What I’m most
proud of is how quickly we’ve established a reputation not just as another financial firm, but as
a genuinely different kind of workplace that values innovation and personal growth.”

How does having offices in both Nicosia and Limassol enhance your ability to attract and retain talent?

Geo Nicolaidis: “Having offices in both Nicosia and Limassol enhances Deriv’s ability to attract and retain talent by offering distinct advantages in each location. While Limassol remains a key hub, the new Nicosia office provides access to a thriving research and technology ecosystem, positioning Deriv as an innovation-driven fintech company. This expansion allows the company to tap into a diverse talent pool, attract top-tier professionals, and foster collaboration in a cutting-edge environment.

By leveraging the strengths of both cities, Deriv strengthens its European presence, reinforces its leadership in fintech, and ensures long-term talent acquisition and retention.”

Andreas Potamitis: “Beyond geographical advantages, having two offices allows us to create
specialised environments. In Nicosia, we’ve built capabilities around AI engineering and
trading analysis, while Limassol has developed strengths in trading analysis and financial
reporting. By accommodating geographic preferences and commuting needs, we’ve substantially broadened our appeal to top talent island-wide.”

You’re currently hiring for several specialised roles in Cyprus. What makes Deriv an attractive destination for professionals in these fields?

Andreas Potamitis: “For technical specialists like AI Engineers, what sets us apart is the
real-world complexity of the problems they get to solve. We’re implementing AI for incremental
improvements and fundamentally reinventing how trading platforms operate. Our engineers
work on systems that process millions of transactions daily across diverse markets – the scale
and impact of their work is immense.

We’ve also created educational programmes that allow professionals to continuously upskill. Our Educational Assistance Programme supports team members pursuing further qualifications, something particularly valuable for those in rapidly evolving fields like artificial
        Intelligence.”

Geo Nicolaidis: “For financial specialists like Trading Analysts and Financial Reporting
Managers, Deriv offers exceptional exposure to global markets. Our presence across 15
countries means these professionals gain insights into diverse financial ecosystems that simply
wouldn’t be possible at firms with a narrower focus.

Beyond specific roles, what attracts talent is our reputation for stability and growth. We’ve
been in the industry for 25 years, serving 3 million customers worldwide. When professionals
join Deriv in Cyprus, they become part of a global organisation with clear momentum and a
        track record of success.”

Looking ahead, how do you envision Deriv’s continued growth in Cyprus?

Geo Nicolaidis: “We see tremendous opportunity to further establish Cyprus as a strategic hub
for Deriv’s European operations. The talent here is world-class, particularly in financial services
and technology. As we continue to expand our AI capabilities, Cyprus will play an increasingly
important role in driving innovation across our global platforms.

We’re also committed to deepening our community involvement. Through Deriv Life, our social
responsibility initiative, we’re developing programmes specifically for Cyprus that focus on
supporting local communities, empowering women, and advancing environmental
          Sustainability.”

Andreas Potamitis: “Beyond just growing our headcount, we’re focused on developing more
specialised capabilities in Cyprus. We’re particularly excited about expanding our AI
engineering team to accelerate the development of trading tools that combine powerful
          automation with intuitive user experiences.

What’s most exciting is that this Best Workplace recognition gives us a strong foundation to
build upon. As we continue to attract exceptional talent, we’re creating a virtuous cycle where
great people attract more great people. Cyprus has already exceeded our expectations as a
talent market, and we’re committed to making even more significant investments here in the
          coming years.”
