A raid on a major broker took place on Tuesday in Malaysia.

Local Chinese-language press reported the incident as a raid on a gambling operation. However, branding and videos from the scene suggest it was actually a brokerage group.

The raid took place in Bangsar, a district in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Local reports claim that police brought seven trucks to the office, all of which were filled with arrested employees.

They then came back with another five trucks and arrest more employees. The operation was still not completed by 19:00 local time.

It is unclear why the broker was raided, with some suggestions that the company had been targeting local customers without regulatory approvals.

Raids on broker offices are common in Malaysia, with employees regularly arrested and then released shortly afterwards.

Some providers do take customers from the country without local licensing.

However, many brands use Malaysia as an operational hub, due to its location, affordability, and the fact most people speak English, without accepting any customers from the country.
