The former CEO of BinckBank has left his role at Saxo Bank.
According to Belgian outlet De Tijd, Vincent Germyns has been regional CEO for Belgium, the Netherlands, and France since 2019. De Tijd reported last year that Germyns was likely to leave the firm but the executive only confirmed the news on Monday. He left his role at Saxo Bank at the start of the year.
He took up his CEO role at Saxo in the same year the firm completed its acquisition of BinckBank, a deal that was first announced in 2018.
Saxo bought BinckBank in part to capture more market share in the countries BinckBank had performed well in.
BinckBank was a Netherlands-based, low cost retail broker that offered both derivatives and more vanilla products. One of the company’s founders was Nick Bortot, who went on to found commission-free stockbroker BUX.
Germyns was an early employee at BinckBank, having been brought in by Bortot to manage its Belgian operations in 2005.
He went on to oversee the company’s operations in France, Italy, and Spain as well, before being made the broker’s CEO in 2015. Germyns was one of the main individuals behind the acquisition of BinckBank by Saxo, which involved the former delisting.
