Event organiser WikiEXPO has been forced to cancel an event in Thailand following pressure from local authorities.
In a letter sent to clients, the company said that pressure from local authorities and the financial regulator has made it impossible to set up an event in the Southeast Asian country.
“Due to recent regulatory changes in Thailand, large-scale financial offline events have faced significant restrictions in both size and format,” said the company in a letter sent to clients.
“To best protect your business interests and exhibition effectiveness, after careful consideration by the organizing committee, we regret to inform you that…[the] WikiEXPO Thailand scheduled for April 29, 2026, in Bangkok has been canceled.”
Thailand is one of the most popular markets for brokers globally, along with other ASEAN countries, like Vietnam and Malaysia.
However, the local regulatory set up makes it very hard to do direct marketing to customers in the country.
Brokers are still doing business in the region but are facing more scrutiny from regulators. Last year, changes in Malaysia meant that some firms stopped accepting customers in the country, with local IBs also taking steps to make sure their activities are compliant.
