Exchange operator Cboe Global Markets said on Monday it hired Julie Bauer as Senior Vice President, Head of Government Relations, effective next Tuesday. The appointment follows the April retirement of Angelo Evangelou, who served as Cboe’s Chief Policy Officer.

Bauer will oversee Cboe’s work with regulators, policymakers and industry groups from Washington, D.C. She will report to Patrick Sexton, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

Sexton said Bauer’s experience would help Cboe respond to changes in financial technology and regulation.

Bauer joins from OCC, the world’s largest equity derivatives clearing organization, where she served as Chief External Relations Officer. In that role she led engagement with congressional and regulatory policymakers, directed advocacy for the U.S. Securities Markets Coalition on behalf of the listed options industry and oversaw external communications, according to her OCC biography.

Before OCC, Bauer spent nine years at FINRA as Senior Vice President of Government Relations. She previously led government relations for the Chicago Board of Trade across a 17-year career with the exchange.
