IG Group launches waitlist for UK options trading

UK-listed broker IG Group has launched a waiting list for options trading for UK customers.

The brokerage group has been planning to expand its offering via the tastytrade brand for at least two years now.

tastytrade is holding an event in London in early June, alongside Cboe and CME Group, so it’s plausible the launch will align with that.

Options have become increasingly popular in the US and other markets, notably India, with most traders using them to speculate on indices or individual equities.

However, the US model is basically predicated on selling flow to market makers. As this model is prohibited in the UK and EU, it’s unclear how – aside from commissions – tastytrade will be able to monetise its business outside of the US.
